Its headquarters are in Gisborne, New Zealand where the company was established in 1980 by large fruit and vegetable farmers. The Gisborne District enjoys a unique climate with over 2200 hours of sunshine each year and has fertile alluvial soils very suitable for fruit and vegetable growing. Located on the eastern most point in the world, Gisborne is also the first place in the world to see the sun each day… hence the name Sunrise Coast. From its beginnings in Gisborne the Company now markets fresh New Zealand produce from all over New Zealand representing many growers and packers and providing a comprehensive service from the seed to final consumer. The company collects and distributes produce through sophisticated and experienced post harvest facilities owned by the Company or by long standing business partners. The focus of these operations is on efficiency, price competitiveness, quality management and food safety. The Sunrise Coast New Zealand Limited Group includes the following companies: Sunrise Coast New Zealand Ltd: Provides all marketing, financial services and administration functions, based in Gisborne. Sunrise Coast China Ltd: A fruit and vegetable supply company based in Qingdao, Shandong Province, North East China with operations throughout Mainland China. Provides fruit and vegetables for export from China on a year round basis (100% owned). Sunrise Coast Tokyo Ltd: Based in Tokyo, Japan, Sunrise Coast Tokyo Ltd provides marketing functions, customer support, promotion and merchandising support and outturn monitoring for imports into Japan (100% owned). Mountain Carrots New Zealand Ltd: A joint venture company between Sunrise Coast New Zealand Ltd and carrot growers in the Ohakaune district. Mountain Carrots specializes in packing of export carrots for the Sunrise Coast Group (56% owned). Rich Red Limited: Joint venture company between Kaiaponi Farms Limited and Sunrise Coast New Zealand Ltd, specializing in the packing and export of fresh “tree ripened” New Zealand Apples (50% owned). Convenience Foods Limited: A specialist food processing company producing retort packaged vegetables for the retail and institutional sectors (100% Owned).
