The underwear apparel industry is huge, as evidenced by well known major underwear manufacturers that advertise extensively on television, outdoor billboards, in magazines, on buses, etc. While boxer shorts are extremely popular with both men and women, there is still a significant market for briefs. Major retailers, therefore, offer many variations of both styles, with different benefits to the wearer. A focus group study of over 700 diverse individuals, conducted by the inventors and by the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles (FIDM), yielded a number of interesting revelations. Although Briefers were designed and patented as men’s underwear by combining the look of a boxer with the support of a brief, we also discovered an equal interest among women who said they would use them as loungewear and as sport shorts. They said they liked the slimming effect of the support briefs and even expressed their preference for the male cut of those briefs. Women also liked the fact that Briefers provide a good cosmetic barrier when used as workout shorts, and for their superior absorption of perspiration. Subsequent focus group testing revealed even more interest in Briefers as sport shorts, among young men and women in their teens. Briefers were also submitted to the well known WIN organization for further evaluation as to their potential in the retail marketplace. Of the more than 30,000 products which have been evaluated by WIN, Briefers scored in the top 5% for their likelihood of success. Briefers is the first product to integrate a full support male brief into men's boxer shorts, and for that invention they have been granted a U.S. utility patent. Briefers® as Underwear: Briefers can be made from a wide variety of durable, attractive fabrics such as the newer washable silks, cotton, nylon, flannel, etc. while still preserving the integrity of the utility patent. They are very comfortable, even under jeans. All styles have been thoroughly tested for frequent laundering durability. In focus group testing many women said that they wished that their boyfriends wore boxers rather than briefs. Briefers are the obvious solution. Women also responded almost unanimously that they would like to purchase Briefers for their own use even though they were designed for men. This gives Briefers the advantage of multiple marketing channels. Briefers® as Outerwear: An interesting twist on this product is that Briefers are attractive and functional enough to be worn as outerwear! Unlike some running shorts and swim suits now on the market which have only a thin, loose fitting cotton or mesh liner, Briefers provide an attractive look, much better support and they are extremely comfortable. Even though they were designed as men's underwear, why not use them as outerwear, too?!
